CT angiography (CTA) combines a CT scan with an injection of a special dye to produce pictures of blood vessels and tissues. The dye (also called a contrast)  is injected through an intravenous (IV) line started in your arm or hand,. This dye i"lights up" blood vessels and tissues that are being studied.  A CT scan is then employed to provide detailed cross-sectional images of your body..

CTA is particularly helpful for the following:

• To find an aneurysm (an enlarged blood vessel that may rupture).

• To detect atherosclerosis (blood vessels narrowed by plaque). 

• To identify blood vessels damaged by injury.

• To locate abnormal blood vessel formations inside your brain

• To find blood clots.

• To evaluate tumors.
